This past weekend the Colorado Shiners hosted the BIPOC BOWL at the Rollerdome in Denver. The event was not all roller derby. There was local food, artists, vendors in the BIPOC and roller derby community, an art show, a silent disco, and MORE!
The first BIPOC BOWL was a HUGE success due to the hard work and dedication of Jams Bond, co-founder of Black Diaspora Derby and founder of the Colorado Shiners. The tournament featured five teams of amazing BIPOC-identifying athletes from around the country.

The tournament was also streamed worldwide on WFTDA’s Twitch live stream. You can catch the action you missed on their channel and later on their YouTube.
In the future, we hope to see more fantastic events like this in the roller derby community and look forward to volunteering with the Colorado Shiners. To find out more on how you can get involved with them, check out their Instagram @coloradoshiners.
We also look forward to the unique opportunities that roller derby leagues have to engage with their communities as we get “Back on Track” as they are able. This fall, WFTDA will be featuring an event series with that in mind. Let us know ideas for an event in the Northern Colorado Roller Derby community.
